Dedicated to the memory of Horrie

This site is a tribute to Horrie, who was born in London on August 23, 1920.

Although Horrie did not suffer a stroke himself, his life was greatly hurt by the tragic loss of his dear son, Robert, suddenly at the age of 52. Horrie also watched the painful demise of his beloved wife, Margaret, as the stroke she suffered was the beginning of her traumatic journey, in her last months, with vascular dementia. Suffering a stroke is devastating to so many and we wanted to, in some small way, use this opportunity to support this wonderful charity that help so many, provide such support to suffers and carers, create spaces to connect with others and are researching for an answer.

Horrie lived a good long life, almost reaching the age of 102 which is pretty amazing for a child who was told his heart may not take him past his teenage years. He was a lucky survivor of WWII as a Petty Officer, rigger, in the Fleet Air Arm, one of the first Open University students ( BA (Hons) 2:1) and a trustee of a housing association, the Woodham Park Development Group that found land in Woodham and together they built  66 wonderful houses for their families.

An extremely conscientious hard worker rising from a temporary clerk position with the HMRC to Inspector of Taxes and yet also the most wonderful creative - a great actor, artist, builder of things, boats and puppet theatres and puppets and a wonderful magician. He could fix most broken items, create fabulous drawings from doodles, grab a coin from behind your ear and tell you your tax code. Not to mention the most glorious garden he created and nurtured with his wife Margaret.

As a brother, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather he was never far away from celebration's, family gatherings and holidays, larks, giggles, card tricks and drumming sessions ( he was a drummer in the boys brigade and also joined the band in the Navy )

A quiet, humble man of immense talent - a magician in so many ways.

He is much loved and will always be remembered.
